Junior Blades Courses - 2018

Last Updated 15th August 2018

Junior Blades One (11 16)

The Blades One course is the first step in learning how to Row and Scull. On the course you will learn how to get afloat safely, and learn the basic techniques of sculling individually and within a crew. The course will also help you to get to know basic terminology about your boat and oars. As part of the course you will learn the basics of how to use an indoor rowing machine, though the course is 90% water based.

We aim to keep the course as practical and active as possible. Physical exercises are kept gentle on the body as individuals learn the technique; frequent breaks are incorporated into sessions, making the course suitable for all. Instructor feedback is continuous due to a maximum ratio of one instructor to four participants, enabling everyone to progress techniques quickly.

All participants start off at the same level, and there is no pressure to learn quickly. Everyone will make mistakes but the most important thing is to have fun, meet new people and learn something new and if you have any worries the recreational rowers will usually be on hand to tell you first hand what to expect!
